What is the stewardship Program?

The Stewardship Program asks the parishioner to determine the amount of time, service, and money he/she is able to commit for the support of the church. It is a fair and simple manner by which each parishioner may participate in the life of the parish.

What does the Stewardship Program support?

It supports all of the day to day church related functions including:

  1. Sacraments & Services
  2. All church publications & mailings
  3. Mortgage payments
  4. Archdiocese assessment
  5. Salaries
  6. Repairs & improvements
  7. Heating & cooling - utilities
  8. Landscaping & Ground Maintenance
  9. Religious Education
  10. Youth Activities

How do I become a participating steward?

After reading this page, you are asked to consider prayerfully and sincerely your commitment. Let us keep in mind that our commitment obligation begins January 1st of each year. Your pledge card may be filled out & signed on Stewardship Sunday or you can pledge online.

How shall I pay my financial commitment to the church?

Your commitment may be paid weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. Weekly or monthly offerings are suggested because it is easier to manage small, regular contributions, rather than large accumulated amounts. Envelopes will be given to you before January 1. These are for the office records as well as your convenience. Check to make sure you receive your own set of envelopes.

Am I expected to increase my Stewardship Commitment?

The answer is yes. In making a decision, one should keep in mind that the expenses of the church are constantly increasing. It simply costs more to operate the Total Church. Therefore, consider what your increase should be.

What is not included in the Commitment Program?

Our commitment does not include the candle offerings, the Philoptochos offering, special offerings that are requested at different times for specific charities, or other projects. We are concerned with creating a spirit of giving which emphasizes our personal responsibility of involvement.

What if after I make a commitment sickness, misfortune, or loss of job occurs?

Our commitment is in the strictest of confidence, and is not a legal obligation, but more importantly a promise to God. Should it become necessary, a parishioner, by contacting the church office or the priest, may adjust his/her commitment until circumstances allow him/her to continue his/her original promise.

What am I expected to offer?

Just as St. Paul speaks to the Christians in Corinth in the 1st century, he speaks to us in the 21st century, and encourages us to set an Honest and Fair portion of our income for the ministries and support of the church. Ask yourself is your church worth one, two, or three dollars or more per day?

Are additional donations required for Baptisms and Weddings?

No. The only required donation is one's commitment. Therefore, when someone who is not a committed steward seeks the services of the Church for a Baptism or Wedding, he will be asked to participate in the Stewardship Program.

How Many people have participated in the Saint Demetrios Stewardship Program in 2004?

In 2004, 609 stewards (individuals and families) contributed a total of $356,011. The average commitment was approximately $584.

How much does the parish need to operate?

In 2004, the parish operating expenses for the year totaled $523,831. Stewardship revenues supported $356,011 or 68% of this total. To cover our expenses fully by stewardship each steward would need to commit an annual pledge of $883. In 2004 the average commitment was $584 per year.

From what other sources does the church contemplate raising monies to meet its budget?

Aside from the generated about 70% by the Stewardship Program additional financial assistance comes from:

  1. Festival
  2. Name Day Dance
  3. Play Production
  4. Various tray collections
  5. Memoriums
  6. Miscellaneous donations
  7. Hall rental

By increasing the percentage of Stewardship we would eliminate the dependency of these fund-raising activities. May the Lord guide our parish to generate 100% from Stewardship Program.

In addition to my financial commitment how else may I help my church?

The Saint Demetrios community offers many areas of service and parishioners are most urgently asked to commit their talent and time especially to this the 35th Anniversary Year of our Parish. Only through involvement does the life fo the Parish become more meaningful.
